At Domaine Preignes le Vieux we are committed to viticulture that is more respectful of the environment, and in September we sowed some of our ranks….

And yes, we have chosen to grass our vines … because grassing the rows of vines offers several advantages.

It helps maintain a plant cover that protects the soil:

– UV radiation, which kills certain beneficial microorganisms on the ground.

– settlement, and yes, covered soil is much more load-bearing than bare soil! (tractors sink less or more at all)

At the same time, plant roots will improve soil porosity and porous soils retain water better, especially since the cover limits evaporation, it is a true virtuous circle.

Finally, know that the legumes that we plant, clover, vetch, mustard, fodder radish among others, are real small factories … They have the particularity of harboring in certain parts of their roots, bacteria which mineralize the air nitrogen captured by the plant and makes it available to our vines, it’s just great!

So we are happy and we share it with you.
